There are no words to express losing my Mother. I can only describe it as a sense of being dead myself, while still being alive. Being here, breathing, while not having anything to do with being here. She passed on February 4 2020, two days before my 27th birthday.

A little over a month later, COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic and I found myself confined to the home I was raised in. For a year and a half I was quarantined in the space I identify with Mom, surrounded by artifacts and pictures of her, but without her physical presence. This contradiction was intensified by the isolation from the rest of the world. I could not help but see a parallel between my personal loss and the collective experience. In a way, everyone was faced with the mystery of death: how do you connect with someone you cannot physically be with?

The notion of a "Golden Age", a period when quality of life was especially good and art was at its peak, is, in my opinion, inherently dubious. Of course, we can learn from history and hopefully glean ideas and practices that empower us in positive ways. But to compare one age to another implies that this moment is somehow separate from every other moment. The way I see it, at any given point in time there can be immeasurable suffering and immeasurable beauty. Our golden age is simply the moment we have right now.

These 8 songs were recorded between April 2020 and July 2021. I did not set out to record an album. The music was what I needed in the moment. I am grateful to share it.
